The book, The Fault In Our Stars by John Green (as I'm sure you all know) has become a major motion picture. The Night Before Our Stars was an exclusive live simulcast on June 5.
I went to see the movie twice with a friend who read the book and another who didn't. The movie was extremely similar to the book.
I read this tweet about a person saying that many people are reading The Fault In Our Stars because it has become so popular not because they want to really capture was the book has to offer. Then saying that at least there are more people reading a great book. Which I totally agree with, people shouldn't read the book just because everyone else is but it is great that there are more people to gain what the book has to give.
I am in a Facebook group that is filled with thousands of people who absolutely love the book/movie. Some people have said in the group that they will not take a person to watch the movie if they haven't read the book. There were even people who made a shirt revealing the biggest part of the book then it saying "should have read the book". I also read comments on an Instagram post of a girl saying she hasn't read the book and people constantly commenting the big part of the book then also saying "should have read the book". It upset me seeing those comments and the girl trying to defend herself. I have a couple thoughts of this, I agree then disagree.
I feel everyone should watch the movie because it is such a great and beautiful movie, and everyone will take a little bit of that movie home with them. They will have learned something new, see things differently, and maybe appreciate things more. I feel that everyone should have that privilege of taking something that amazing with them. But it also bugs me how people say "I love The Fault In Our Stars", "I'm such a big fan", and they haven't read the book. There are also people who say they love The Fault In Our Stars just because it is what everyone else loves. I feel if you are a supposed huge fan, you must have read the book. I want everyone to read the book, there is so much you can pick up/learn from the book. It is a wonderful book that everyone will enjoy, but I know not everyone reads books. I know not everyone enjoys reading as much as many of us do and that's absolutely okay. So, I don't know how I feel about people who do not really enjoy hearing/being around the people who have not read the book because I also do not, but I also want everyone to learn and be amazed by The Fault In Our Stars.
