Let me just start by saying I like to not get into the trends that occur, and do my own thing. Basically what I'm saying is that I try to be different and not get into what everyone else is in. But, of course I don't completely succeed in that but, oh well:).
As many know, Hunger Games became very popular. I did not read the books and still am not planing to. I am sure (maybe even positive) that the books are amazing but I just don't want to read them. Everyone has read the books and I don't want to read them too. I guess I'm stubborn (lol).
I first heard of the book Divergent from my niece. She read all of The Hunger Games books, and she heard that Divergent was like another Hunger Games. In my mind I said "I am not going to read the book, everyone's into it, seems lame"
That same day I found out you can download PDFs of books, so I downloaded Divergent to show my niece. I kept the PDF in my phone, later I was like "hmm I think I'll read this". I read the first chapter and I was hooked!
I fell in love with the book and think it is the best book ever. Here is a summary of what the book is about (but I'm sure you already know):
In Beatrice Prior’s dystopian Chicago world, society is divided into five factions, each dedicated to the cultivation of a particular virtue—Candor (the honest), Abnegation (the selfless), Dauntless (the brave), Amity (the peaceful), and Erudite (the intelligent). On an appointed day of every year, all sixteen-year-olds must select the faction to which they will devote the rest of their lives. For Beatrice, the decision is between staying with her family and being who she really is—she can’t have both. So she makes a choice that surprises everyone, including herself.
During the highly competitive initiation that follows, Beatrice renames herself Tris, and struggles alongside her fellow initiates to live out the choice they have made. Together, they must undergo extreme physical tests of endurance and intense psychological simulations, some with devastating consequences. As initiation transforms them all, Tris must determine who her friends really are—and where, exactly, a romance with a sometimes-fascinating, sometimes-exasperating boy fits into the life she’s chosen. But Tris also has a secret: one she’s kept hidden from everyone, because she’s been warned it can mean death. And as she discovers unrest and growing conflict that threatens to unravel her seemingly-perfect society, she also learns that her secret might be what helps her save those she loves . . . or it might be what destroys her.
What I love about the book is that it's not so much about love and that there's so much action; definitely a page turner.
I went to the World Premiere in California was on March 18 and it was amazing! I do wish I was there sooner to be by the black carpet, but Ansel Elgort and Theo James were only a few feet away (fangirling). There were so many celebrities, my friend and I took a picture with Jaden Smith. We got free wristbands to watch Divergent the same day, the movie was absolutely great, I cried at some scenes. Although, there were some things I did not like of the movie, having read the book, but no movie will be EXACTLY like book. I enjoyed the movie and can not wait for the second movie.
